Though Motorsport.com understands from well-placed sources that recent stories linking Raikkonen to a WRC return with Toyota were “completely blown up”, Makinen has made clear the door is open for a test.
“He hasn’t tested anything now, but why not?” he told Motorsport.com.
“If he wants to drive the car I can let him, no question.” (motorsport.com)
Remember though the rising star of Robert Kubica ? Between 2006 and 2009 he drove for the BMW Sauber F1 team, promoted from test driver to race driver during 2006. In June 2008, Kubica took his maiden Formula One victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, becoming the first Polish driver to win a Formula One race.
On 6 February 2011, Kubica was seriously injured in a Rally crash at the Ronde di Andora rally, in which his right forearm was partially severed. He was taking part in the rally for personal enjoyment. (wikepedia) He crashed into a guardrail, suffering severe injuries to his right hand, arm and leg. While doctors were able to save Kubica’s arm, they had to partially amputate sections of his forearm, which left it much weaker than his other. For many, this looked like the end of Kubica’s once-promising career. (washingtonpost)
Lets Hope Raikkonen’s driving style if he does test will keep him on the road!
